As an appendix to this English edition, there are photo additions of never before published images from the Juggling Archive Karl-Heinz Ziethen in Berlin. Leningrad, 1929 "Establishing the world's first Museum of the Circus and Variety Arts is just one step along the road of Cultural Revolution to preserve the history. The other goal is to improve the skills and knowledge of those in the entertainment industry, especially the circus and variety performers. The Museum is not a portrait gallery. It is a foundation that allows performers to study their craft and will enable visitors to learn about the circus and the different genres throughout history. Two exhibitions already have taken place this year. A third exhibition that just opened and to which this catalog is dedicated is entitled "The Art of the Juggler."

Originally written in 1977 by circus historian Paul Adrian and published as part of the “Encyclopédia du Cirque” collection in France, the book “Here’s to You, The Jugglers” was the first historical juggling book ever published in Europe. Now that’s gotten translated from French into English by Niels Duinker, future generations of jugglers can learn about this part of juggling history. Paul Adrian was born in 1919. He made his debut as a journalist in the magazine “La Vie Hippique,” created by his father. His passion for the circus quickly led him to write for many magazines. He was the first writer to have covered the history of the circus and its specialties encyclopedically. His books still constitute the foundations of any circophile library today. This book tells about the origin of the art of juggling, and it contains valuable first-hand descriptions of the acts of many of the best practitioners from the European circus and variety scene of the mid 20th century. In this 2018 edition of the book, many never before published photos have been added from the Juggling Archive of Karl-Heinz Ziethen, who got spired to start writing his books on the history of juggling after he got a copy of the original book from Paul Adrian. As a bonus, this English translation contains the chapter on juggling from the C. Strehly book “L'acrobatie et les acrobats.”

This book is the biography of the originator of the 'gentleman' juggling act. Michael Kara, wearing a top hat and topcoat, carrying an umbrella, and smoking a cigar, would enter the stage and begin juggling. He performed in the best theaters in the world and made several tours of America. Kara was born on January 31, 1867, and his real name is Michael Steiner. His fame grew through the early years of the 20th century, and he was often fully booked years in advance. Sadly, at the outbreak of the First World War, he was passing through France and was forced to spend four years in a war prison camp, while his French wife disowned him and fled with his fortune. In 1918 he returned to Germany, 51 years old, penniless, and not having practiced his act for four years. His colleague Salerno loaned him props so that he could start again, and within a few months, tho old Kara was back! This is a fantastic story about one of the true innovators of the art of juggling and perseverance as an artist.

Anglo was the stage name of Australian juggler Thomas Horton, who was born in 1879 in North Adelaide, South Australia. He learned to juggle as a boy and created many original routines. He was eventually billed as Australia’s Greatest Juggler. When Anglo traveled to London for an engagement in 1903, he met with the Hamley Brothers, owners of the world’s oldest toy store and toy company. The Hamley Brothers agreed to published the world’s first full-length book about juggling, written by Anglo, titled The Art of Modern Juggling. The book was published in 1907 and is one of the rarest juggling books in existence. This book was the first full-length book about juggling and was a popular book for jugglers to learn from in the first decades of the twentieth century. It gives us a glimpse into what jugglers performed at the time, and is, therefore, of great historical value.

Juggling is a journey filled with paradoxes and intricacies. This book, "The Paradoxes of Juggling," reveals insights that all the juggling legends understood by grasping these paradoxes. While many books teach you how to juggle, few focus on the art of learning itself. This book fills that void. You might say that the book you're holding is the vital link within a trilogy of juggling guides stemming from the golden age of the Soviet circus.
Michael Staroseletsky, the author, hails from the same era as many of the Russian school dynasty greats, such as Kiss, Ignatov, and Rudenko. Think of Alexander Kiss, renowned for his insights into the juggler's mindset in "If You Are a Juggler," and Alexander Bauman, whose work "The Art of Juggling" served as the textbook for Soviet juggling education. Staroseletsky's new book bridges the gap between theory and practice and features a foreword by the exceptional American juggler Albert Lucas.

Based on a true story. Murder. Marriage. Mystery. It’s not an easy juggling act.
In May of 1903, Thomas “Anglo” Horton was the cover story for London’s influential and immensely popular Magic Magazine.
One year later he was dead.
Then in 1907, Hamley’s of London publishes The Art of Modern Juggling. It’s the world’s first book on the subject and Anglo is cited as the author.
Not only was “Australia’s Greatest Juggler” rotting away in an unmarked grave by the time the book came out, it was widely known that Horton, 24 at the time of his death, couldn’t “spell a word of four letters”.
How does an illiterate juggler, three years gone, author a ground-breaking book about a timeless tradition? According to a local bookseller and Horton’s one-time promoter, there’s only one possible explanation.
Only he doesn’t believe in ghosts.
As an appendix to this true crime novel, you will be able to read Thomas' origin book "The Art of Modern Juggling" that's included as a free bonus after the main story.
